Van Morrison not only named a song, but an entire album, after Tupelo Honey! Well, it was probably about a woman he loved... but he loved her so much that he compared her to Tupelo Honey! This sought after variety is one of the finest in the world, made nectar from Tupelo Trees that grow mainly along the swamps of South Georgia and the gulf coast, known colloquially as Swamp Gum. In the past, highly prized plots of land where Tupelos grew would be passed down between generations and hives would be set up floating on spits of soil floating right out in the middle of swamps for harvest. These days, the majority of Tupelo property is along the coastline but the wild spirit of Tupelo honey harvesting remains true to tradition in flavor, quality and allure.
